The Kingdom of Buganda has praised the legacy and service of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya, who recently passed away while in India.

The Kabaka’s message was delivered by Buganda Minister Hon. David F. K. Mpanga during a memorial service held at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, Kampala.

In his message, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said that His Majesty the Kabaka and the people of Buganda fondly remember the friendship and cooperation that existed between the late Odinga, his family, and the Kingdom — a relationship dating back to the reign of Kabaka Edward Muteesa II.

“King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II visited Raila Odinga on several occasions, reflecting deep friendship, mutual respect, and shared African aspirations,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro commended Odinga’s courage and dedicated service to his country, noting that even during difficult times — including several imprisonments — he remained steadfast and left a lasting mark on Kenya’s democratic journey.

He also extended condolences to Mrs. Ida Odinga, the widow of the late leader, the Odinga family, and the people of Kenya.

Rt. Rev. Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, urged believers to emulate the late Raila Odinga by promoting peace and justice in their communities.

The memorial service was attended by members of the Odinga family, led by his daughter Rosemary Adiambo Odinga, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, Governor of Kisumu, government ministers, political party leaders, and other dignitaries.
