MUKONO, Uganda —

The Buganda Kingdom has officially launched eleven (11) Nassale schools, together with the committees appointed to manage them, as part of a broader effort to strengthen early childhood education and lay a firm foundation for children’s future development.

The launch ceremony was presided over by the First Deputy Katikkiro and Minister for Innovation and Service Delivery, Owek. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo, who represented the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga. The event took place at the Kyaggwe County headquarters in Mukono District.

Addressing guests, Owek. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase emphasised that young children form the foundation of the nation and must be supported from an early age to prevent challenges later in life. He noted that this priority explains why His Majesty the Kabaka has placed strong emphasis on early childhood education through the establishment of Nassale schools.

He said the initiative is intended to nurture well-rounded children intellectually, morally and culturally, while building a strong and disciplined generation for the future.

“The child is the foundation of the nation. Investing in early education is the surest way to safeguard our future.”

He further urged the committees entrusted with managing the Nassale schools to uphold transparency, integrity and accountability, reminding them that they represent the image of the Buganda Kingdom and must strive for excellence.

The Minister for Education and Social Development, Owek. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, commended His Majesty the Kabaka for approving and availing the Nassale schools to the people of Buganda.

She said the initiative will help address the shortage of early childhood education centres that focus on instilling cultural values and promoting the local language among young children from an early age.

Meanwhile, the Kyaggwe County Chief (Ssekiboobo), Owek. Vincent Matovu, encouraged parents to enrol their children at Ssekiboobo Daycare & Nursery School, where they can receive proper early education under qualified professionals grounded in the values and traditions of the Buganda Kingdom.
