Buganda in Mourning: Katikkiro Loses His Sister, Annet Namukasa

In a moment of deep sorrow, the Buganda Kingdom has announced the passing of Annet Mauricia Namukasa, the sister of the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga.

The news has brought widespread grief across the Kingdom, with leaders, religious figures, and members of the public sending messages of condolence to the Katikkiro’s family.

Burial Arrangements

In an official communication, the family released the funeral program, which will take place in Bisanje and Kasanje, Masaka (Buddu County).

The program is as follows:

Tuesday, February 2, 2026

  • 🕙 10:00 PM – The first prayer service will be held at Bisanje Church, to honor the life of the deceased and offer spiritual support to the bereaved family.

Wednesday, February 3, 2026

  • 🕐 1:00 PM – Requiem Mass will be held at the ancestral home of the late Sepiria Mukasa in Kasanje, Kabonera.
  • 🕯️ Burial – The late Annet Namukasa will be laid to rest later that evening in Kasanje.
  • 🕕 6:00 PM – A concluding Mass will be held after the burial to mark the end of the funeral rites.

A Loss to the Kingdom

Annet Namukasa is remembered as a woman of good character and a pillar in the Bisanje community of Buddu. Her death is a significant loss not only to the Katikkiro’s immediate family but also to the wider Buganda Kingdom.

Kingdom officials, religious leaders, and residents of Buddu have shown solidarity with Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga during this difficult time. The Katikkiro has often spoken about the importance of family and heritage, and now stands in grief as he lays his sister to rest on their ancestral land.
