Katikkiro of Buganda meets Little Miss Uganda, Serena Abigail Nankabirwa Makumbi, at Bulange in Mengo.
MENGO – The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged children and young people across the Kingdom and the country to develop courage and self-confidence if they are to succeed in their future lives.
He delivered this message while hosting the reigning Little Miss Uganda, Serena Abigail Nankabirwa Makumbi, at Bulange in Mengo. The young winner, who recently emerged victorious in the national competition, was officially received and commended for bringing pride and honor.
Courage as the Key to Success
In his remarks, Owek. Mayiga praised Serena for her composure, bravery, and confidence during the competition, saying these qualities set her apart as a winner.
“To achieve anything meaningful in life, a person must be courageous. I encourage all children to believe in who they are and in what they do,” the Katikkiro said.
“Serena’s success is proof that when a child refuses to be intimidated by challenges, they can go far. This same spirit will guide her throughout her life.”
Message to Parents
The Katikkiro also used the opportunity to speak about the important role families play in raising successful children. He commended Serena’s parents for their consistent support, noting that family encouragement is crucial in building a child’s confidence.
He called on all parents to identify and nurture their children’s talents from an early age. While emphasizing that education is important, he said it should go hand in hand with developing other gifts and abilities.
“Success does not follow only one path. I urge parents to support their children in developing their talents. When a child feels supported at home, they gain the confidence to conquer the world,” he added.
Inspiration and Representation
During the meeting, Serena also shared her journey to winning the Little Miss Uganda crown, saying the achievement is not hers alone but a source of inspiration to other young girls to pursue their dreams with confidence and dignity.
Her visit to Bulange was seen as a sign of leadership that supports children and youth, and promotes values, culture, and responsibility among the next generation.
Echoing the Katikkiro’s message on courage, the Buganda Kingdom continues to nurture a generation of young leaders ready to contribute to the development of Buganda and Uganda.
