The Kingdom of Buganda is mourning the passing of one of its senior royal members, Nnaalinnya Gertrude Catherine Tebattagwabwe, who has died at the age of 80.
Buganda's Premier, Charles Peter Mayiga, revealed that the royal aunt had been unwell for some time but was receiving the appropriate medical care.
“She has been a committed supporter of the Kingdom. Since His Majesty the Kabaka ascended the throne, she has consistently appeared at many cultural and royal family events. We shall dearly miss her,” the Katikkiro stated.
He further shared that her passing came as a shock to the family, especially since preparations were underway to celebrate her 80th birthday.
Nnaalinnya Tebattagwabwe was a princess descended from the royal lineage of the late Ssekabaka Daudi Chwa II.
The Kingdom has extended heartfelt condolences to the royal family and the people of Buganda during this time of sorrow. Details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
“We are deeply saddened, Your Majesty. We have not protected her well enough,” the Katikkiro added solemnly.
