Prof. George Kanyeihamba during his years of service
Retired Supreme Court Judge, Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba, has passed away at the age of 85. He passed away on 14th July 2025, at Nakasero Hospital.
Prof. Kanyeihamba was born on 11th August 1939 and was just one month away from celebrating his 86th birthday. He served on the Supreme Court from 1997 until 2009.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said the news of the death of former Supreme Court Judge, Justice George Kanyeihamba, was received with deep sadness.
“As an academic, political actor, minister, judge, and private citizen, he never wavered from his ideals,” the Katikkiro said. “He had the courage to say what he knew to be right or what he felt to be wrong. He was passionate about the rule of law and the unity of Ugandans.
He was a proud son of Kigezi who referred to himself as a dedicated subject of the Kabaka of Buganda. My condolences to his family and friends.”
