The Buganda Flag
The Buganda Kingdom commemorated the Day of Local Government and Leadership, celebrating its historical independence.
The ceremony took place at Musaale Busukuma Grounds in Kyaddondo, where participants highlighted leadership, good governance, and the use of technology among youth, positioning Buganda at the forefront.
During the Kyaddondo Province awards, top performers in public service were recognised with ceremonial shields and certificates of excellence.
Hon. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the chief guest, emphasised that the service of the Kabaka’s chiefs forms the foundation of leadership, comparing it to the cornerstone of a house—if the cornerstone is weak, the house cannot stand. He urged people to respect and uphold this foundation in their daily duties.

He encouraged everyone to serve diligently, reminding them that leadership begins with caring for one’s family, home, and community.
Hon.Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, Chairperson of the event and Buganda Minister of Leadership, Environment, and Human Development, highlighted that strengthening leadership is crucial because Kingdom programs, including governance, depend on the chiefs’ commitment to reach the people.
During the leadership sessions, Hon. Mariam Mayanja reminded attendees to protect their environment by planting trees, cultivating roadsides, and cleaning surroundings, framing these actions as a personal responsibility.
The Buganda Minister of Local Government, Kabaka’s Visits, and Buganda Affairs, Hon. Joseph Kawuki, explained that Kyaddondo Province, through efficient local governance, meets standards by supporting councils, managing town planning, keeping proper records, and fostering development that generates revenue for provincial projects.
The event was attended by Deputy Speaker of Parliament H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, former Katikkiros Joseph Mulwanyammuli Ssemogerere and Dan Muliika, Kabaka’s chiefs, religious leaders, local officials, schoolchildren, and members of the public.
