The Buganda Kingdom has laid a foundation stone for the construction of a girls' dormitory at Lubiri High School’s Buloba branch.

The three-storey facility will cost over 2.5 billion Ugandan shillings, with funding provided by Centenary Bank through a loan scheme.

The project was officially launched by the First Deputy Katikkiro and Minister for Innovation, Technology, and Public Service, Hon. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo.

He noted that the strong foundation on which the school was established has enabled it to thrive, especially under its current leadership over the past 12 years.

Hon. Prof. Dr. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo thanked Centenary Bank for its financial support, saying the bank has enabled the Kingdom to secure loans for the construction of several buildings at the school. He also expressed appreciation to the parents who entrusted their children to be educated at the institution.

He urged the construction committee to closely supervise the project and ensure that the work is carried out diligently and to a high standard that reflects the dignity of the Kingdom.

The Minister for Social Development and Education, Hon. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, encouraged students to remain at the school from Senior One to Senior Six, rather than transferring elsewhere after Senior Four.

She attributed student retention to the positive relationships between teachers, parents, and school administrators, and urged them to continue fostering that cooperation.

Amos Gitta, the Chairperson of the Board, said the dormitory is expected to be completed within five years. He explained that the growing student population created an urgent need for additional accommodation to house up to 900 students.
