The Buganda Kingdom has paid its final respects to the late Owek. Amb William S.K. Matovu in a solemn service held at Namirembe Cathedral. The memorial attracted a wide range of mourners, including royals, kingdom officials, clergy, government representatives, family, and friends.
In his condolence message, the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, praised Ambassador Matovu’s dedicated service to the Kabaka and his notable contribution to the Kabaka Foundation.
“The late Amb was deeply knowledgeable in matters concerning the Kingdom and was an excellent mentor to many,” said the Katikkiro. “He touched countless lives, many of whom now serve in key roles within the Kingdom.”
He extended heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends, and the wider Buganda community, praying that God grants his soul eternal rest.

Retired Bishop of West Buganda, Henry Katumba Tamale, leads prayers for the late Ambassador at Namirembe Cathedral
The service was led by the retired Bishop of West Buganda, Henry Katumba Tamale, who also delivered a sermon and special prayers in honor of the deceased.
