Ugandan students pursuing their studies abroad have been encouraged to shift their mindset from solely seeking office employment and instead embrace creativity and the practical skills they acquire during their studies to establish their own businesses.

The message was delivered by Prince Kayondo Henry, Head of the Youth Innovation Committee in the Royal Family (Olulyo Olulangira), while addressing Ugandan students studying in India.

Creativity Opens Opportunities

Speaking at this year’s annual students’ convention held in Rajkot City in Gujarat State, Prince Kayondo explained that many students face challenges after completing their studies abroad and returning to Uganda because they assume that jobs will automatically be available to them.

The biggest obstacle facing students who study abroad is the belief that jobs will be handed to them on a silver platter without effort. What is most important is to start something of your own and use creativity. Even the small financial support provided by parents can be used to build something meaningful.

He further explained that if students exercise financial discipline and save part of their pocket money, they can accumulate startup capital instead of waiting for government institutions or large companies to employ them.

Guidance from Leaders

The convention was also attended by several leaders, including the Member of Parliament-elect for Kassanda South, Hon. Bisaso Abdul. Hon. Bisaso pledged to address the challenge of neglect faced by students after completing their studies, promising to engage the government to establish a structured framework to monitor and support these students in their development initiatives.

Appreciation to the Kingdom

The event was organized by student leaders in India, including Zziwa Emmanuel, Chairperson of the Baganda Students Association in India, and Dr. Reagan Tweheyo, President of the Uganda Students Association in India (USAI).

The leaders expressed their deep appreciation to the Buganda Kingdom and the Royal Family for their continued care and commitment to youth and student affairs. Dr. Tweheyo noted that the presence of such leaders strengthens students’ morale and reminds them that the responsibility of building Uganda lies in their hands.

The annual convention brings together Ugandan students from different parts of India to develop leadership skills, inspire one another, and explore investment and employment opportunities available in Uganda after graduation.
