In a strong initiative to strengthen commerce within the kingdom, Katikkiro of Buganda, Hon. Charles Peter Mayiga, chaired a session of the newly established Mengo Chamber of Commerce Board. The board is led by Chief John Fred Kiyimba Freeman and guided by seven appointed members.
Leading the meeting demonstrated wisdom in line with the principles of the Buganda Kingdom "Obuntubulamu" and "Ennono", focusing on developing and formalizing professional business practices among Buganda entrepreneurs.
Business as a School of Ethics
Hon. Mayiga emphasized that business is not just about earning wealth; it is also about shaping character. "We need to train our people in business to raise their standards," he stated.
Leadership and Governance
The Katikkiro encouraged business owners to adhere to ethical and structured practices that enhance their credibility with clients. He warned that misconduct could harm genuine entrepreneurs.
Linking Present to Heritage
The Katikkiro highlighted the importance of connecting modern business practices with Buganda’s heritage. He reminded attendees that all successful businesses historically had the kingdom’s values at heart, helping to distribute wealth and support heritage initiatives between Buganda and Bunyoro.
