The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has conveyed Christmas greetings to the people of Buganda, urging them to reflect deeply on the message of His Majesty the Kabaka issued for the celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ and the New Year 2026.

While attending Christmas Mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Owek. Mayiga highlighted six key points from the Kabaka’s message and called upon the people of Buganda to carefully reflect on them, together with other guidance contained in the message.

The six key points he outlined were:

  1. Security agencies should not violate human rights.
  2. The Electoral Commission should carry out its duties with integrity and fairness.
  3. Voters should exercise caution, especially regarding individuals who distribute money during elections.
  4. People should store food due to reduced rainfall this year.
  5. Farmers should invest in irrigation to sustain agricultural production.
  6. Security agencies should arrest individuals who sacrifice children, while parents are urged to protect their children.

Katikkiro thanked the Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, for leading the Mass and wished the people of Buganda a joyful Christmas celebration. He, however, reminded them that life is precious and urged everyone to remain vigilant and avoid accidents during the festive season.

Owek. Mayiga also noted that 2025 had been a productive year for the Buganda Kingdom, but emphasized that the completion of the restoration of the Kasubi Tombs remains the Kingdom’s top priority. He called upon the people of Buganda to strengthen unity in the coming year so that efforts to restore Buganda to greater heights may continue.

“2025 has been a good year for the Kingdom. We have opened health centres, nursery schools, and many people have embraced coffee farming. However, our greatest priority remains the completion of the Kasubi Tombs,” Mayiga said.

In his message, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere urged parents to closely monitor their children, particularly regarding the use of the internet. He warned that unregulated online content exposes children to harmful material and behaviours that could otherwise be avoided.

Representing the central government, Minister JC Muyingo commended the Archbishop for addressing parental responsibility and encouraged parents to ensure the safety and well-being of their children during the school holiday period.

Minister Muyingo further urged the public to use the Christmas season to reflect inwardly and avoid actions that could destabilize the country. He emphasized that peace is vital for everyone and warned against inciting violence, especially during the ongoing electoral period.

The Christmas Mass at Lubaga Cathedral was attended by Prince David Kintu Wasajja and Princess Marion Nankya, former Katikkiro Joseph Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere, presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and his wife Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi, senior royal officials, Robert Kasibante, and many other Christian faithful.
